Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck

While plastic surgeries have become a part of a trend of the current generation, a tummy tuck is one of the most popular among all of them. Tummy tucking surgery, also known as abdominoplasty, helps to remove excessive, hanging skin. Sometimes, excess fat is often removed while performing tummy tucks.

But there are certain risk and complications linked with it too. That as a consumer, someone must be aware of.

Deep Venous Thrombosis (DVT)

It is crucial to take as much rest as you can take after the surgery. But you must also keep your legs moving to prevent blood clots formation. By chance, if any portion of the blood clot breaks free from your leg and travels to your lungs, it can be fatal. This thing is generally known as a pulmonary embolism, also referred to as DVT. To avoid DVT, it is preferable to walk slowly for at least 10 to 20 minutes regularly after the surgery.

Necrosis

Your skin requires a consistent blood flow for receiving oxygen and staying healthy. During the abdominoplasty procedure, the excessive skin needs to get detached from the muscle layer to get removed. Only after that, your surgeon is able to tighten your abdominal muscles. That can often cause an interruption in blood flow, which can lead to the death of the skin near the incision site. Necrosis is generally the death of tissue resulted due to a lack of health-giving blood and oxygen. It is a very rare complication. Thus, if such issues are evident after a tummy tuck surgery, make sure to contact your surgeon as soon as possible.

Seroma

Fluids begin to accumulate after the surgery in the incision area. It happens while the body attempts to recover itself. Although, due to the extent of the surgery, the amount of fluid get produced is too great to absorb for the body. That can lead to a collection of fluid under your skin, which is known as seroma. Drainage tubes can be the saviour for such a situation. It gets placed in the incision to release and then collect the fluid.

Infection

Infections are quite common after any surgery during the recovery procedure. You can get antibiotics as per your surgeon’s recommendations. Infection generally occurs while the patient fails to consume those antibiotics directed. Thus, the perfect way to prevent infections is to go as per your doctor’s instructions.

Skin Rippling and Sagging

One another very rare complication faced in the surgery is leaving the remaining skin taut. It is more likely to happen if you don’t use post-tummy wear. Like the tummy tuck cost, the tummy wear is also pocket-friendly. Thus, there is nothing to compromise in it. One major purpose of the compression garments and abdominal binder is to keep the skin in place as the incision heals and prevent rippling, sagging or indentations.

Conclusion

There are certain problems that one gets to face after tummy tuck surgery. But one needs to be very sure before opting for it and talk to your surgeon about your body’s capability.
