Chemical Peeling

This process is very effective and crucial because it needs anatomy and physiology functions as our skin has 3 layers and those are epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue (hypodermis). Before performing therapies evaluation should be properly done of a patient cause while executing the therapies it would be safe for the patient and won’t cause any damages to the skin. After using peeling process some might go through under tremendous disasters where as some may tackle it easily. Some tremendous disasters that can happen to a patient is

a. Infections or wounds on the peeled area.

b. Pigmentary disorders like melasma, ephelides or freckles.

c. Pre-cancerous lesions, actinic keratosis and many more.

Before doing surgeries or going under chemical treatments one must assure these things:

· Patient doesn’t have allergic history.

· Patient shouldn’t be pregnant or breastfeeding.

· Patient who had recently gone through any facial surgery they must avoid any surgeries right now.

For peeling the main equipment is peeling agent. Some peeling agents are:

· Alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) — it is a fruit-derived family of carboxylic acid. It links with the alpha part of hydroxyl group. Examples to AHAs are glycolic acid from sugar cane, lactic acid from milk, and citric acid from citrus fruits.

· On the other hand, Beta hydroxy acids (BHA) has the hydroxyl group attached with second carbon atom which includes salicylic acid. A popular solution containing equal parts (14 grams) of salicylic acid, lactic acid 85%, resorcinol (a phenol derivative), and a 100 mL of ethanol is Jessner solution.

· Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) — it is also a peeling agent whose effects are variant according to their concentration and whether it was part of a solution.

· Phenol- it is an aromatic hydrocarbon. In deeper peels powerful chemical is used. For example, mixing phenol with 88% hexachlorophene, soap, croton oil, and distilled water which creates the Baker-Gordon formula.

Clinical Significance

A chemical peel with Skin resurfacing is a powerful tool which helps to restore youthful face and appearance shows a rested face. With the aim of homogenizing pigmentation it manages other conditions of the skin.

When skin will be in good condition then one can wore makeup but it must be after 1–2 weeks once re-epithelialization is completed and the skin will be in a good state. Before all the chemical peeling process every single tests and procedures must be done.
